Bible Passage - John 15:9
All this last week I was thinking about what I’d like to talk about today. Suddenly I had some memories from when I was a child. Would you like me to tell you about my hometown when I was a kid? OK, let's do it! I actually have two hometowns, one when I was a boy and a different one when I was in junior high and high school.
My boyhood home town was a place called Rock Rapids, Iowa in the USA. Right there on the map. See it? All the way through elementary school, that was my hometown. So I decided to use my computer and Google maps and take a look around my hometown again after many years. It was wonderful! Everything looked so much the same like it was when I was a kid.
I even found my home church, The Rock Rapids United Methodist Church! At that time it was called the First Methodist Church. I have a lot of good memories about that church.
This is what it looks like inside the sanctuary. Not really much has changed since the time I was a kid. The benches, the pipe organ, the stained-glass windows are all exactly the same as years ago.
And here’s what the main Sunday school hall looks like. I think everybody’s getting ready to start their classes. And speaking of Sunday school, I also have some good memories of that too.
So that’s what I’m going to share with you today. Let’s have a Sunday school lesson together. Our Bible passage for Sunday school today is, "I love you just like the Father loves me." - John 15:9.
My Sunday school teacher was Mrs. Peterson and every Sunday morning we would gather together in the classroom and she would teach us a lesson from the Bible. We studied Noah and Moses and King David and many other people from Bible times.
But one lesson that I remember very clearly was, “Jesus Loves Me.“ She taught us several things about how Jesus loves us.
She taught us that Jesus would bring little children to himself and teach them and tell them how much he loved them. Maybe Mrs. Peterson taught us the Bible passage for today which is John 15:9. Jesus tells us he loves us as much as the Father loves him. At the end of the lesson we would always sing a song to finish our study time together.
Mrs. Peterson taught us the song that I think is still my favorite Christian song, "Jesus Loves Me." My message time is almost finished, so let's sing this song together. Then we can see just how much Jesus loves us too! (Sing 4 verses of the song together from the screen.)
Let’s pray about that: Dear Jesus, we thank you for our church and all of our friends that we have here. Thank you very much for dying for us to save us from our sins. Give us strength every day and walk with us always. We thank You and we praise You, in your name we pray, Amen.
And please don't forget all day today, "Jesus Loves You!"
